While a number of global and even some Central European markets have recovered completely and are recording new peaks, the Croatian market – marred by negative economic growth rates and a decline of foreign investment over the past few years – continues to seek ways of making an accelerated recovery.
Having said that, a major role of financial market participants in providing support to the market development and growth should not be neglected. And while the first few crisis years went by in the expectation of reverting to the “same old”, we have recently witnessed significant progress in the creation of new products, manners of trading, regulations – all in a bid to reverse negative trends. This process, without a shadow of a doubt, is helped by the fact that Croatia has a highly developed pension fund industry, which has taken a proactive stance in the recovery of the Croatian economy. It will become even more pronounced thanks to new regulations adopted in 2014.
What the future might bring, how to find ways of actively contributing to the economic growth and development and what the role of the capital market in this process is, are the central topics of this year’s conference organised by the Zagreb Stock Exchange, together with the Association of Pension Fund Management Companies and Pension Insurance Companies and the Association of Investment Fund Management Companies at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce.
